Golf Conditioning
The golf swing is an athletic movement! Since the arrival of Tiger, golfers around the world from elite tour Pros to club players are now aware of the importance of the effect physical conditioning has on the way you move and the way you are able to swing the golf club.
The following qualities are essential:-
Posture - Good posture both static and dynamic
Flexibility - Sound mechanics require a full range of movement from most major joints
Stability - Your ability to hold one body part still while another moves.
Balance - Your body must be able to accommodate the speed and power
Strength - Good strength is required through a full range of movement
Power - Power is necessary for producing maximum clubhead speed and distance
Every golfer develops their own personal swing based around their swing concepts, perceptions and most importantly their physical attributes. Many golfers, who have had lessons, understand what they do and what they need to change but are just unable to do it.
A holistic approach to game improvement involves a combination of understanding your swing faults with an understanding of your physical characteristics. Understanding whether a movement is caused by a physical limitation or just poor technique is paramount in prescribing a direction for improvement.
Basic movements can be tested for and any areas of concern can then be addressed by referral to the relevant health practitioner. We have several links with local physiotherapists and strength and conditioning trainers with golf specific knowledge.
